Homework & Revision Star Chart

What this sheet is for

This chart is for children who need a visible, motivating record of their study habits rather than a vague instruction to 'do homework.' It suits the weeks when school work is picking up — new term, upcoming tests, or a subject that needs steady effort. A parent and child agree on the reward written in the box before the chart begins, so the target is clear from day one.

How to use it

Write the child's name on the Learner's name line. Under Study goal, the five rows cover focused reading, completing homework on time, reviewing previous work, writing practice responses, and preparing for the next day. Each time the child meets a goal in one session, they colour or sticker one circle along that row. At the end of each session or day, count the total and write it in the Stars column on the right. Once a row reaches fourteen circles, the Reward when a row is full box tells the child what they have earned.

What is printed on the page

“Homework & Revision Star Chart” is laid out as star grid: five goals down the side with fourteen circles across each row to colour in or sticker, a name line at the top, an optional stars-earned column and a reward box at the foot. Under the title it reads “Earn a star each time you complete a study goal — watch your rows fill up.”, and the line at the foot of the page says “Colour in your star as soon as you finish the task, not later — it keeps the record honest.”.

The goal labels slot holds five entries — “Read notes for 20 min without phone”, “Complete all homework before dinner”, “Review yesterday's work before new topic”, “Write a full practice question or summary” and “Tidy desk and pack bag the night before” — so the sheet is already filled in for study rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.

The remaining labels on “Homework & Revision Star Chart”, the study sheet, are “Learner's name” for the name label, “Study goal” for the goal heading, “Stars” for the earned heading and “Reward when a row is full” for the reward label.

Two things about this particular star grid are settings rather than text, and “Homework & Revision Star Chart” has them set like this. Earned column is on: add a column at the right to write the star count. Reward box is on: include the reward box at the foot.

Tips

Let the child choose which row to work on first — ownership over the order increases follow-through on tasks.

Set a consistent study time each day so earning stars becomes a routine rather than a negotiation.

Keep the reward modest and related to downtime, so study and rest stay clearly separated in the child's mind.
