Daily Feed & Diaper Log

Daily newborn log tracking feed times, breast or bottle volume, diaper type, and wet-diaper count for parents in the first weeks.

This sheet is for organizing and record-keeping. It is not medical advice. Take any question about health, treatment or care to a licensed clinician, such as your pediatrician.

What this sheet is for

In the first days and weeks after birth, midwives and pediatric nurses ask how often your baby is feeding and how many wet diapers they are producing. Keeping a written record removes the guesswork, especially when sleep deprivation makes the previous feed feel like a blur. This sheet gives you one clear place to log every event across a full week.

How to use it

Write the week's start date in the 'Week starting' field at the top right. Each time your baby feeds, fill in one row: record the Feed start time, then the Duration / ml column (minutes on breast, or milliliters from a bottle). In the Diaper type column write W for wet, D for dirty, or WD for both. Add a tally mark to Wet diapers to build a running count through the day. Use the Notes column for latch problems, wind, unsettled periods, or anything to mention at your next appointment. At the end of the week, total the rows in the Week at a glance strip.

What is printed on the page

“Daily Feed & Diaper Log” is laid out as dated table: a date column plus four labelled value columns and an optional notes column, 22 numbered rows, and a summary strip at the foot. Under the title it reads “Track every feed, diaper change, and wet output for your newborn, day by day.”, and the line at the foot of the page says “If output drops below 6 wet diapers in 24 hours or feeding seems painful, contact your midwife or pediatric nurse.”.

The column headings slot holds four entries — “Feed start time”, “Duration / ml”, “Diaper type” and “Wet diapers (tally)” — so the sheet is already filled in for baby rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.

The summary prompts slot holds three entries — “Total feeds this week”, “Avg. wet diapers/day” and “Concerns to raise” — so the sheet is already filled in for baby rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.

The remaining labels on “Daily Feed & Diaper Log”, the baby sheet, are “Week starting” for the period label, “Notes” for the notes heading and “Week at a glance” for the summary heading.

Two things about this particular dated table are settings rather than text, and “Daily Feed & Diaper Log” has them set like this. Notes column is on: add a wide notes column at the right of the table. Summary strip is on: include the summary strip at the foot.

Tips

Keep the sheet and a pen on the feeding chair so you record the time immediately, not from memory.

For breastfed babies, note which side you started on in the Notes column to alternate correctly next feed.

Photograph the completed sheet before your six-week check so you have a digital backup to share with your doctor.

The other layouts in this set

“Daily Feed & Diaper Log” is one of three sheets in this set, each a different fixed layout filled for the same topic. “Baby Sleep Log” uses the two-column log layout and “Baby Growth Tracker” uses the notes and table layout. Pick by how you work: the layout decides how much you write and where, not what the sheet is about.
