Tidy Room Star Chart

What this sheet is for

When a child is learning to keep their room tidy, the habit feels invisible — they can't easily see progress. This chart makes every effort count. Each time the room is tidy at the agreed check time, the child colours in one star. The filled circles, milestone rings and reward lines give them a clear picture of how far they have come and what is coming next.

How to use it

Write the child's name on the 'This chart belongs to' line and fill in 'My tidy-room goal' in their own words — for example, 'put toys away before dinner'. Each time the room passes the check, the child colours or stamps one of the thirty numbered circles. The double rings at circles 10 and 20 mark the two milestone moments; when the child reaches one, they claim the reward listed under 'Rewards along the way'. At circle 30, they write or draw the big reward in the box at the foot and collect it with a grown-up.

What is printed on the page

“Tidy Room Star Chart” is laid out as single goal: one goal written large at the top, thirty big numbered circles in three rows of ten with milestone rings at 10, 20 and 30, three milestone reward lines and a big-reward box at the foot. Under the title it reads “Earn 30 stars for keeping your room tidy — one star each time you do it.”, and the line at the foot of the page says “Stick this chart where you can see it from your bed so you remember to check your room before school.”.

The milestone labels slot holds three entries — “10 stars — choose tonight's bedtime story”, “20 stars — pick a special snack or treat” and “30 stars — big reward below” — so the sheet is already filled in for chores rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.

The remaining labels on “Tidy Room Star Chart”, the chores sheet, are “This chart belongs to” for the name label, “My tidy-room goal” for the goal prompt, “Rewards along the way” for the milestones heading and “My big reward at 30 stars” for the reward prompt.

Tips

Agree on a fixed check time each day, such as after school or before bath, so the habit has a clear trigger.

Let the child decide what 'tidy enough' means by making a short list of three tasks together before you start.

If a day is missed, do not remove a star — simply carry on the next day to keep the chart from feeling punishing.
