My Helping Stars Chart

What this sheet is for

This chart is designed for children who are just beginning to take part in household routines. Each job is short, physical, and completable without help — the kind a three-year-old can finish in under a minute and feel genuinely proud of. Parents reach for a chart like this when a child needs a visual record they can see filling up, rather than relying on a verbal reminder that disappears the moment it is said.

How to use it

Write your child's name on the 'My name is' line. Read through the five jobs listed under 'My job' together so your child knows exactly what each one means — point to the toy box, the laundry basket, and so on. Each time a job is done, your child colours a circle in that row or sticks a sticker on it. At the end of the day, count the circles together and write the total in the 'My stars' column. When every circle in a row is filled across all fourteen days, your child earns the treat written in the reward box.

What is printed on the page

“My Helping Stars Chart” is laid out as star grid: five goals down the side with fourteen circles across each row to colour in or sticker, a name line at the top, an optional stars-earned column and a reward box at the foot. Under the title it reads “A star chart for little helpers aged 3–5 to earn stars for everyday jobs”, and the line at the foot of the page says “Colour in or add a sticker right after the job is done, while your child can watch and feel proud.”.

The goal labels slot holds five entries — “Put toys in the toy box”, “Put dirty clothes in the basket”, “Carry my plate to the sink”, “Feed the pet (with a grown-up)” and “Tidy my shoes by the door” — so the sheet is already filled in for chores rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.

The remaining labels on “My Helping Stars Chart”, the chores sheet, are “My name is” for the name label, “My job” for the goal heading, “My stars” for the earned heading and “When I fill a row, my reward is” for the reward label.

Two things about this particular star grid are settings rather than text, and “My Helping Stars Chart” has them set like this. Earned column is on: add a column at the right to write the star count. Reward box is on: include the reward box at the foot.

Tips

Write the agreed reward in the box before you start, so your child can see exactly what they are working toward.

Do the job alongside your child the first two or three times so they know what 'done' looks like for each task.

If a row stays empty for several days, shorten the job rather than removing it — 'put two toys away' still builds the habit.
