Who this sheet is for

This sheet suits a home gardener who wants to plan sowing and transplanting tasks before the week begins rather than log them after the fact. Compared with the Vegetable Bed Weekly Log, which records what happened each day, this format helps you set planting goals first and then review whether they were met.

What this sheet is for

This sheet is for the weeks when the growing calendar accelerates — when several things need sowing indoors, others are ready to move outside, and beds still need compost turned in before either can happen. It gives each day a dedicated space so planting tasks don't blur together or get forgotten mid-week when the weather shifts.

How to use it

Write the calendar dates in the Week of field at the top right. Use This Week's Planting Goals to name the three most urgent jobs before Monday arrives — split them between indoor sowing, transplanting, and bed preparation. Each day box carries the hint Sow · Transplant · Depth · Spacing to remind you to record not just what you did but how you did it. At the end of the week, fill in the End-of-Week Review: the first prompt builds your planting map bed by bed; the second captures delays so you can reschedule realistically.

What is printed on the page

“Sow & Plant Week Planner” is laid out as day boxes with goals: three goal lines across the top, seven boxed days in a 4 + 3 grid with a faint hint in each, and a two-prompt review box at the bottom. Under the title it reads “Track daily sowing, transplanting, and direct-planting tasks across all beds.”, and the line at the foot of the page says “Note soil temperature alongside sow dates — germination records become next year's calendar.”.

The goal prompts slot holds three entries — “Seeds to sow indoors”, “Seedlings ready to transplant” and “Beds to prepare or amend” — so the sheet is already filled in for garden rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.

The review prompts slot holds two entries — “What was sown or planted, and in which bed?” and “What didn't happen this week — and why not?” — so the sheet is already filled in for garden rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.

The remaining labels on “Sow & Plant Week Planner”, the garden sheet, are “Week of” for the week label, “This Week's Planting Goals” for the goals heading, “Sow · Transplant · Depth · Spacing” for the cell hint and “End-of-Week Review” for the review heading.

Two things about this particular day boxes with goals are settings rather than text, and “Sow & Plant Week Planner” has them set like this. Start sunday is off: start the week on Sunday instead of Monday. Review box is on: include the review box at the bottom.

Tips

Write variety names in full, not just the crop — 'Tomato' is useless when you trialled three this season.

Record actual soil or compost depth when sowing; shallow notes now prevent repeated mistakes next year.

Cross-reference each transplant entry with the indoor sow date to calculate your true growing-on time.

The other layouts in this set

“Sow & Plant Week Planner” is one of three sheets in this set, each a different fixed layout filled for the same topic. “Vegetable Bed Weekly Log” uses the seven-row week layout and “Weekly Watering & Feeding Log” uses the weekly tracker table layout. Pick by how you work: the layout decides how much you write and where, not what the sheet is about.

Step by step

  1. Write the date in the 'Week of' field, then complete all three lines under 'This Week's Planting Goals': seeds to sow indoors, seedlings ready to transplant, and beds to prepare or amend.
  2. Before each day begins, write the planned work into that day's box using the 'Sow · Transplant · Depth · Spacing' format as a guide for what details to include.
  3. Record the soil temperature in the day box alongside the sow date, as the footer tip notes that germination records become next year's calendar.
  4. At the end of the week, answer the first 'End-of-Week Review' prompt by noting what was sown or planted and in which bed.
  5. Answer the second review prompt — what did not happen this week and why — so the reason is recorded and the task carries forward deliberately rather than being forgotten.

Example entry

'This Week's Planting Goals' — Seeds to sow indoors: basil, parsley | Seedlings ready to transplant: 6 tomato starts to Bed 1 | Beds to prepare or amend: turn compost into Bed 4. Wednesday box: Sow · Transplant · Depth · Spacing — Direct sow bush beans, 1 inch deep, 4 inches apart, Bed 2; soil temp 62°F.

Questions about this sheet

What size paper does this sheet print on?

The sheet is formatted for US Letter, 8.5 × 11 inches, which fits a standard home printer without any scaling adjustments.

How is this sheet different from the Vegetable Bed Weekly Log on the same site?

This planner is for setting goals before the week and reviewing whether they were met; the Vegetable Bed Weekly Log is structured for recording what actually happened each day across three task columns.

The day boxes have room for the 'Sow · Transplant · Depth · Spacing' details — what if I only have one type of task on a given day?

Just fill in the fields that apply and leave the others blank; the hint is a prompt for what to include, not a form that requires every field to be completed.
