What this sheet is for

Reach for this sheet at the start of a new training month when you need the whole cycle visible at once. It suits anyone running a structured lifting programme — whether that is a 3-day upper/lower split, a 5×5 plan, or a home dumbbell routine — who wants to see patterns in session frequency, spot missed workouts early, and keep one month of effort on a single page.

How to use it

Write the month and year in the field at the top right, then pencil in your planned session types (for example: Push, Pull, Legs, or Upper, Lower, Rest) into each date cell before the month begins. As each day passes, add the actual main lifts and working sets you completed — keep it brief, such as 'Squat 4×5, RDL 3×8'. Use This Month's Lift Goals to record the specific numbers you are chasing, such as a new one-rep max or a target weight for a key movement. Log any planned deload weeks or fixed rest days in Scheduled Deload / Rest so they are visible at a glance. Use Progress Notes at the end of the month to record what improved, what stalled, and what to adjust next cycle.

What is printed on the page

“Strength Training Monthly Log” is laid out as classic month grid: a full-width 7 × 6 month grid with a date corner in every cell and three labelled boxes across the foot (e.g. key dates, goals, notes). Under the title it reads “Track every session, rest day, and lift goal across the full month.”, and the line at the foot of the page says “Mark rest days before the month starts — planned recovery is part of the programme, not a gap in it.”.

The box headings slot holds three entries — “This Month's Lift Goals”, “Scheduled Deload / Rest” and “Progress Notes” — so the sheet is already filled in for fitness rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.

The remaining labels on the page are “Month / Year” for the month label.

Two things about this particular classic month grid are settings rather than text, and “Strength Training Monthly Log” has them set like this. Start sunday is off: start the week on Sunday instead of Monday. Bottom boxes is on: include the three boxes under the grid (off gives the grid the whole page).

Tips

Use a two-letter session code in each cell — Pu, Pl, Le, Re — so the weekly pattern reads clearly at a glance.

Record working weight and reps in the cell on the day you hit a personal best, so you can find it without searching old logs.

At month end, count total training days versus planned days and write the ratio in Progress Notes to measure consistency over time.

The other layouts in this set

“Strength Training Monthly Log” is one of three sheets in this set, each a different fixed layout filled for the same topic. “Monthly Cardio Training Calendar” uses the grid with sidebar layout and “Rest & Recovery Month Log” uses the day list layout. Pick by how you work: the layout decides how much you write and where, not what the sheet is about.
