Layover Day Planner
Single-day planner for travellers with a long layover, covering connection times, must-do tasks and optional city time.
The PDF is built on your device from the layout and the text above; nothing is uploaded. If the preview does not display, the download buttons still work.
What this sheet is for
A long layover sits in awkward middle ground: too short to ignore, long enough to stress about. This sheet gives a layover of any length its own focused plan — one clear anchor (the departure time), a firm list of non-negotiables before the gate, and space to fit in whatever else the day might hold, whether that is a shower, a city excursion or just a quiet meal.
How to use it
Write your connecting flight's departure time in the My connection flight departs at box — this is the fixed point everything else works back from. Under Must Do Before Gate, list the three tasks that are non-negotiable: clearing customs, collecting a bag, reaching the correct terminal. Use the If Time Allows checkboxes for lower-stakes options such as a lounge visit, currency exchange or a quick walk outside the airport. Run through the Daily Travel Checks column at least once after landing and again an hour before boarding. Use Terminal and Transit Notes for gate numbers, transit train stops, wifi codes or any detail you need to retrieve quickly.
What is printed on the page
“Layover Day Planner” is laid out as focus page: a large single-focus box across the top, three numbered must-dos and six could-do checkboxes on the left, a five-habit checklist and a notes area on the right. Under the title it reads “Plan a long layover — airport, city, transfers and everything in between.”, and the line at the foot of the page says “Keep your boarding pass, local currency and hotel confirmation reachable — not buried in your bag.”.
The habit labels slot holds five entries — “Passport / visa in hand”, “Phone & battery charged”, “Local cash or card ready”, “Medication / snacks packed” and “Next gate or exit confirmed” — so the sheet is already filled in for travel rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.
The remaining labels on the page are “Layover date” for the date label, “My connection flight departs at:” for the focus prompt, “Must Do Before Gate” for the must heading, “If Time Allows” for the could heading, “Daily Travel Checks” for the habits heading and “Terminal & Transit Notes” for the notes heading.
Two things about this particular focus page are settings rather than text, and “Layover Day Planner” has them set like this. Habits row is on: include the five-habit checklist. Ruled notes is on: rule the notes area with writing lines instead of leaving it blank.
Tips
Set a phone alarm for one hour before boarding, then plan your optional activities to finish thirty minutes before that alarm.
Write the terminal and gate number in the notes area as soon as you land — departure boards update and early details get forgotten.
If leaving the airport, note the latest safe return time next to your focus box so it stays visible all day.
The other layouts in this set
“Layover Day Planner” is one of three sheets in this set, each a different fixed layout filled for the same topic. “Holiday Day Itinerary” uses the time-blocked day layout and “Travel Day Logistics Planner” uses the three sections layout. Pick by how you work: the layout decides how much you write and where, not what the sheet is about.
