What this sheet is for
Some bills arrive once a year or once a quarter and can catch a household off guard if the money has not been set aside. This ledger gives you a single place to log every large, infrequent bill — home insurance, vehicle tax, streaming annual plans, water rates, TV licences — as it falls due across the twelve months, so you can see at a glance what the account balance will be before each renewal hits.
How to use it
Write the calendar year in the Year field. Enter your starting account or reserve balance on the Account balance on 1 Jan line. For each bill as it becomes due, fill in the date, the Bill / Provider name, and the amount in the Paid out column. If you receive a refund or credit from a provider, record it in the Credited in column instead. After every entry, calculate and write the new Balance. The heavier rules every six rows break the ledger into rough two-month blocks to make it easier to scan. At the foot, write your Target reserve after all renewals paid — the minimum balance you want to be left with once every annual bill has been settled.
What is printed on the page
“Annual Bills Renewal Ledger” is laid out as running ledger: an opening-balance line, a 24-row ledger with date, description, in, out and running balance columns, and a goal box at the foot. Under the title it reads “Track yearly and quarterly bills, renewal dates, amounts due, and account balance through the year.”, and the line at the foot of the page says “After paying each bill, update the Balance column the same day so the running total stays accurate.”.
The column headings slot holds three entries — “Bill / Provider”, “Credited in” and “Paid out” — so the sheet is already filled in for bills rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.
The remaining labels on the page are “Year” for the period label, “Account balance on 1 Jan” for the opening label, “Balance” for the balance heading and “Target reserve after all renewals paid” for the goal prompt.
Two things about this particular running ledger are settings rather than text, and “Annual Bills Renewal Ledger” has them set like this. Goal box is on: include the goal box at the foot. Weekly dividers is on (the opposite of the layout's default): draw a heavier rule every six rows.
Tips
At the start of the year, list every known annual bill in date order before any are due, so future payments do not surprise you.
If a provider increases a renewal price, cross out the old estimate and write the confirmed amount in the Paid out column before settling.
Compare the Balance figure just before each renewal against your target reserve; a shortfall of more than one bill signals you need to top up the account.
The other layouts in this set
“Annual Bills Renewal Ledger” is one of three sheets in this set, each a different fixed layout filled for the same topic. “Monthly Bill Payment Tracker” uses the income and expenses layout and “Household Bills Due Date Planner” uses the category envelopes layout. Pick by how you work: the layout decides how much you write and where, not what the sheet is about.
